How to put it together
- 1
Put on the red dress or oversized red t-shirt as your main base layer.
- 2
Cut several dozen small teardrop shapes (about 1 to 2 inches long) from the yellow or white adhesive felt.
- 3
Peel and stick the felt 'seeds' evenly across the front and back of the red garment.
- 4
Cut a large, star-like collar shape with pointed leaves from the green felt to drape over your shoulders, securing it with fabric tape.
- 5
Roll a piece of green felt into a tight cylinder to create a 3-inch stem, then glue it to the center of a small green felt circle.
- 6
Attach the green stem and circle to the top of the headband using hot glue or safety pins, then place the headband on your head.
- 7
Complete the outfit by putting on the green tights or leggings.
Makeup & hair
Keep hair simple, either down or in low pigtails so the headband stem sits prominently on top. For makeup, opt for bright red lipstick and a touch of pink blush on the cheeks to match the berry theme.

Tips
- If you are using a regular t-shirt, buy it 1-2 sizes larger to give it a rounder, more fruit-like shape.
- Use adhesive-backed felt for the seeds so you can easily peel them off and reuse the red shirt later.
- For outdoor events in cold weather, layer a green long-sleeve shirt underneath the red dress.
Strawberry costume FAQ
- How do you make a strawberry costume out of felt?
- You can cut a simple sandwich-board style poncho out of large red felt sheets, glue yellow felt teardrops on the front, and add a green felt collar at the neck.
- What do you wear under a strawberry costume?
- Green leggings, tights, or long-sleeve shirts work best to mimic the stem and leaves, but plain black or denim also works well.
- Is this costume suitable for warm weather?
- Yes, if you use a lightweight red t-shirt or tank dress, it is highly breathable and perfect for warm outdoor events.
Did you know? Botanically speaking, a strawberry is not actually a berry; it is an aggregate accessory fruit, and those little 'seeds' on the outside are actually individual fruits called achenes.
