Alfalfa Costume
Recreate the iconic Little Rascals look with a signature hair cowlick.
Alfalfa is the beloved, love-struck crooner from the classic franchise The Little Rascals. Known for his charmingly dapper but slightly disheveled outfit and his gravity-defying hair cowlick, this character is a popular choice for nostalgic solo, couples, or kids' costumes. The look consists of classic mid-century boys' formalwear, complete with suspenders, a bow tie, and that signature slicked-back hair.

How to put it together
- 1
Put on the white short-sleeve button-down shirt and button it all the way to the top collar.
- 2
Tuck the shirt neatly into your dark trousers, pulling the pants up slightly high on the waist.
- 3
Clip the suspenders onto the front and back of the trousers, adjusting them so they fit snugly over your shoulders.
- 4
Fasten the pre-tied bow tie around your shirt collar.
- 5
Part your hair down the middle, slicking both sides flat against your head using hair gel.
- 6
Pull a single, small section of hair from the crown of your head straight up, applying extra gel or hairspray to make it stand vertically as a cowlick.
- 7
Put on the white ankle socks and black dress shoes to complete the ensemble.
Makeup & hair
The hair is the most important part of this costume. Part your hair down the center, slick it flat to your head with gel, and use a strong-hold pomade or hairspray to make a single strand at the back crown stand straight up. Keep makeup minimal and clean-faced.

- For outdoor Halloween events, layer a simple dark vest or sweater vest over the shirt to stay warm without hiding the costume's silhouette.
- Practice your best off-key singing voice to playfully serenade people at your costume party.
Alfalfa costume FAQ

Did you know? Alfalfa's iconic cowlick was not a natural feature of actor Carl Switzer; it was styled into his hair daily using petroleum jelly and water during filming.
